Cherry Blossoms | Sunnyvale, CA | 03-29-11

I love cherry blossoms and have been wanting to take some different shots of them every year.  This year, I was disappointed to find the ones by where I live and work die or close up so early.  Luckily, I was in the area that I grew up in a few days ago and noticed that there were a bunch of cherry blossom trees around my mom's place.

One of the things that have been sticking in my mind is the concept of taking multiple shots of one thing.  You can end up with different images by zooming in to have a tighter frame of the subject, zooming out to include more of the background, placing the subject off centered, shooting from an upwards angle, etc.  These are the three I like the most.

  1. Gorgeous pictures. Do you sell your work? Do you have a website to purchase from?

  5. Your photos are great. You definitely have special photographic eye. I believe you need to be doing this instead of teaching. I love the placement of the blossoms with the tree trunk. It flows very nicely.

  6. Once I'm done with my master's I'll be devoting more time to photography as I hope to be able to make it a second career. Another project for myself this summer would be to create a website.

  7. such a lovely tree...

My son's senior project will probably be about how different lenses and settings produce such different shots.

  8. It's amazing how something can look more beautiful when it's captured under the right amount of light and angle. Your pictures are beautiful. Do you prefer to take a particular type of subject....people, flowers, innanimate objects?

  10. There are two things I like best about photography. First, it captures images of people we love and times we cherish so that we can reminisce about them long after the event is over or the person is no longer with us. Those photos are priceless.Second, a well concieved photograph gives the subject an extra dimension, a new meaning, a new life. I really admire your work.

  11. The bark of the cherry tree appears blue and really help create a contrasting backdrop for the pink flowers. The blossoms also seem to be coming right our of the thick trunk and not from a branch. My favorite one is on the bottom. You captured simple beauty!
